Beulah Land
03:14
|
|||
Sing that song, sing that song once more for me
There will be times that I’m gonna miss it
Pray to God, pray to God that He’ll save our souls
Where we’re going, only He knows
Maybe when it’s all over we’ll both meet again
Counting time like grains of sand
What’s now dying may yet live again
This time in Beulah Land
There’s nothing more to be done, nothing more you can say to me
The past is past, a solemn stone
Years of regret as of yet go unanswered
There is no tying up loose ends
I’m not fighting, there’s no battle here to win
No stage big enough to stand
Maybe when it’s all over we’ll all meet again
This time in Beulah Land

Juarez
02:49
|
|||
Well I'm goin down to Juarez, gonna buy myself new boots
Gonna fill my hat with whiskey, gonna buy a gun that shoots
I got everything I wanted, baby, I got everything I wanted from you
Well I'm going down to Jaurez
If it's the last thing I do
Goin down to Juarez, good Lord knows I've heard good things
I've heard rumors 'bout their women, they don't wear much more than strings
I'll get everything I want, there, baby, I'll get everything I want, there, it's true
Yeah I'm going down to Juarez
If it's the last thing I do
Goin' down to Juarez, what could possibly go wrong?
We'll drink in every barroom, and we'll bring them girls along
I'll take anything I want, oh baby, I'll take anything I want, from you
Yeah I'm going down to Juarez
If it's the last thing I do
Goin' down to Juarez, biggest hoss you ever saw
Just call me Willie Nelson, cause I'm one big, bad outlaw
I'm gonna pick a fight, there, baby, I'm gonna pick a fight there or two
I'm going down to Juarez
If it's the last thing I do

In Years
03:08
|
|||
I remember days we spent workin’ out our plans
It just takes time and effort and so that’s how we began
We’d meet on that old patio, soundin’ out our fears
It’d all make sense about two drinks in
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years
I labored all through storms and floods, bitin’ heat and cold
Strangers test your limits then we’d bring it all back home
Endless brand new TV shows and a hundred home-cooked meals
Workin’ out by string-light glow
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years
We set out with it all intact, a frayed knot here and there
No knowledge of the things we lacked, each challenge like a dare
We blew out way past exit signs on a mountain road in low gear
It used to be all by design
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years
Ain’t been that way in years

Rather Go to Hell
03:02
|
|||
Finally got some work, it ain’t workin’ out too well
I ain’t got the means to do anything else
My left ear’s ringing from the pneumatic pop
Muscles achin’ but I ain’t about to stop
Mexican radio echoes up the hallway, swelterin’ a hundred degrees
Sun in the sky no rain on the horizon, maybe at lunch I can catch a few Z’s
Cause I’d rather go to hell than go to work
Couldn’t light a fire under me with a book of matches
Well I ain’t much of a beggar, and I ain’t cut out to rob
But I’d rather go to hell than work another day at this God-forsaken job
Pry my own eyes awake, shift my own feet to the floor
God Himself ain’t awake at this hour
I eat the same damn breakfast, pack the same damn lunch,
Hold out for the weekend when I finally can get drunk
Cause I’d rather go to hell than go to work
Couldn’t light a fire under me with a book of matches
Well I ain’t much of a beggar, and I ain’t cut out to rob
But I’d rather go to hell than work another day at this God-forsaken job
It’s best to just suck it up like any other day
The only difference is, down in hell, they might have better pay
Well I ain’t much of a beggar, and I ain’t cut out to rob
But I’d rather go to hell than work another day at this God-forsaken job
Take me now, Lord

Taken for a Ride
05:00
|
|||
You wake up in the morning, unhappy without warning
Tellin’ me that life ain’t all it’s cracked up to be
You clean the house in silence, dropping cold, subtle, sly hints
Resolving in the end to just live and let things be
I saw the signs come a-callin’
Figured the axe was a-fallin’
From that moment I just hoped and I prayed
That from your mind, darlin’, I won’t fade
I’m a coward, I’m a loser, I’m a serial abuser
Of the thoughts and of the feelings that you try so hard to hide
If I knew some way to tell you some thing that might compel you
To believe me when I say
I didn’t take you for a ride
Meanwhile I'm receiving letters, promising I'll treat her better
Somewhere in my mind, I'm resigned to my fate
Each choice is harder than the last, I'm reminded of the past
I'd say sorry, if you ever asked, instead I’ll sit here and worry and wait
I’m a coward, I’m a loser, I’m a serial abuser
Of the thoughts and of the feelings that you try so hard to hide
If I knew some way to tell you some thing that might compel you
To believe me when I say
I didn’t take you for a ride

Two Heads
02:22
|
|||
You know we’re at our best when we’re sleeping together
It’s when we awake that our problems arise
The only solution is to sleep in forever
And never have to deal with the problems of life
Yeah I’ve heard it suggested that life is a movie
If so, I’ve seen this one bout a half billion times
Wouldn’t you rather just skip to the ending?
Cue applause, roll the credits, flip the record, pour the wine
I’m not a fool, neither are you,
They always say two are better than one
It seems that the rule is simply untrue
If you’re looking for proof, the burden’s on us
There once was a time all we needed was the travelin’
Maybe move to some place where there’s hiking and hills
Now all I ask for is a flat piece of Dallas
And the tiniest chance to work it out right here
I’m not a fool, neither are you,
They always say two are better than one
Seems that the rule is simply untrue
If you’re looking for proof, the burden’s on us
Yeah, if you’re looking for proof
The burden’s on us

Knew You
03:19
|
|||
You’ve gone, you’ve gone to the rain-soaked South, you’ve got nothin’ to hold you here
And all the words are stuck in my mouth and they’re kept there by the fear
That you’re gonna make me lonesome, you’re gonna make me blue
You’re gonna make me lonesome, but I can take it,
Just because it’s you
And we sat and talked over beer and cake about our friendship, and where you’d been
Now there’s a storm rollin’ right ‘cross the lake, but you're home in bed with him
And you’re gonna make me lonesome, you’re gonna make me sad
You’re gonna make me lonesome, but I can take it
Alone ain’t so bad
Now I often see you at 3 AM, and you’re smokin’ those cigarettes
Impossibly small and impossibly thin, alone on the concrete step
And you’re gonna make me lonesome, you’re gonna make me blue
You’re gonna make me lonesome but I can take it
I thought I knew you
And we’ve spent so much time goin’ through that same routine
You’ll give up to me, you’ll see
You’ll give up to me, and I’ll find out what you really think
You’re gonna make me lonesome, you’re gonna make me cry
You’re gonna make me lonesome but I can take it
I love to live the lie

Honest Drinking
03:21
|
|||
There's plenty of nights of drinking that I don't remember
Try as I might, the whiskey's a memory clot
Unlike most, that don't mean regrets, I ain't made all that many yet
But I do think that I've missed out on a lot
There's probably times that things could have gone a lot better
If my vision weren't blurred and my mind could stand itself up
Arguments, relationship woes, fist fights and terrible shows,
My body, my mind, and my liver all bruised from the cup
What is it about drinking that I find so fun?
Why is it that two drinks are always better than one?
I can't help but think that someday I'll give it up
But for now I just can't convince myself I've had enough
Now don't get me wrong, drinking is my favorite pastime
I swear there's even plenty of times I drink for the taste
It sure makes you feel so grand when it starts to get hard to stand
And you yell and you sing, all your inhibitions erased
What is it about drinking that I find so fun?
Why is it that two drinks are always better than one?
I can't help but think that someday I'll give it up
But for now I just can't convince myself I've had enough
Yeah for now I just can’t convince myself I’ve had enough

Road to Hell
02:02
|
|||
Well the road to hell is paved mighty well, they got color TVs in all the motels
And the truck stops are clean but they’re built on the bones of
Lonesome guitar pickers like me
I ain’t got time to explain I gotta pack up the band and find the cheapest place where
I can rent a van
So it’s BC powder, it’s coffee on the hour, and frequent calls back home
Woke up this mornin’ with good intentions
Now here I am again, three whiskeys in, headin’ headlong down the long road to hell
So it’s billboards, power cords, check engine lights ignored, figure out what to record
Four bands will split the door
Spilled beer, broken gear, finally becoming clear how much this is gonna take
Well I ain’t got much but I got a hunch if we just keep truckin’ we’re at least as
Good as the next bunch
Keep bendin’ the strings, let the steel guitar ring, keep that train beat on the track
Woke up this mornin’ with good intentions
Now here I am again, three whiskeys in, headin’ headlong down the long road to hell

First Day It's Warm
03:05
|
|||
The first day it’s warm after winter in Texas
Anything becomes an excuse to get out and play
Ask a girl on a date, no one gets rejected
The first day it’s warm after winter in Texas
There’s a strong smell of barbecue for miles around
Sleeves all rolled up and the windows rolled down there’s
Adults on the porch, and kids in the street
First time you’ve seen your poor neighbors in weeks
And we’ll have freeze tag, dirty mags, Six Flags and ice cream
School just got out you hear the kids down the block scream
Drinkin’ liquor in the front yard till they come and arrest us
The first day it’s warm after winter in Texas
All the cowboys and cowgirls start to switch out their clothes
Box up the felt hats there’s no need for those
It’ll be short sleeves and straw till at least late October
Even the cattle are glad winter’s over
Don’t move an inch, there’s a wasp in your hair
Critters and bugs all crawl out from their lairs
Bees in the nest, and snakes in the hole
How do they all seem to know that we’ll have
Freeze tag, dirty mags, Six Flags and ice cream
School just got out you hear the kids down the block scream
Drinkin’ liquor in the front yard till they come and arrest us
The first day it’s warm after winter in Texas
The first day it’s warm after winter in Texas
